About Us

Voilà par/by Andréanne is one of Canada's up and coming Aboriginal clothing design companies that offers eco-friendly, fair trade clothing made in Canada.  From the initial sketch to pattern making, cutting and sewing, everything is produced in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Andréanne is a creative Métis designer who studied international design at Montréal's prestigious LaSalle College, receiving her diploma in Fashion Design in 2004.  A year later, with the help of Aboriginal Business Canada, she created her company under the label, MJAnne Couture. When creating her company, Andréanne drew upon her background in dance to design Hug Me, a collection of yoga-inspired active clothing that is comfortable as well as functional. Andréanne's design structure and vision have since evolved and expanded.

Under her new label, Voilà par/by Andréanne, she introduces new fabrics that are softer and more luxurious to create a unique blend of à la mode!  Fusing European influences with Aboriginal Art,  Voilà brings you comfortable and rejuvenating pieces for the woman on the go!

Besides her own collections, Andréanne collaborates with artist, David Albert, to design costumes for various local dance companies such as: Nafro Dance, Winnipeg Contemporary Dancers, The Prairie Dancers, and School of the Contemporary Dancers.

She also represents Aboriginal Designers as a board member of the Apparel Human Resource Council , an organization serving the Canadian Apparel Industry.

About our Fabrics:

We are please to inform you that Voilà par/by Andreanne's Bamboo and Organic Cotton fabrics are certified with Okeko-Tex Certification, Product Class 1.(This means the dye have been tested to be free of toxic inputs) (Class 1 happens to be the strictest certification)

Bamboo fibres / Organic Cotton

Bamboo fibres add softness, breathability, temperature regulation and moisture absorption properties to fabrics. Bamboo crops are fast growing an do not require the herbicide and pesticide use required for conventional cotton. The fibres are made when the stocks and leaves of the plant are mulched and then extruded out of a spinerette.

Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment. Organic production systems replenish and maintain soil fertility, reduce the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilizers, and build biologically diverse agriculture. Third-party certification organizations verify that organic producers use only methods and materials allowed in organic production. Organic cotton is grown without the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. In addition, federal regulations prohibit the use of genetically engineered seed for organic farming. All cotton sold as organic in the United States and Canada must meet strict federal regulations covering how the cotton is grown.

Why wear organic?

Organic cotton is about so much more than just protecting your skin from toxic chemicals—although that’s definitely a bonus! Organic cotton farming also means that the land and the farmers who till it both receive tremendous benefits.                    Good for your skin and the environment!

Supply Chain:

Design & Patterns:
From the initial sketch to creating the pattern for each design, everything is done at the Voilà Workshop in St-Boniface, Winnipeg. We test the product with our test team and the it's off to the cutting and sewing!
Even the decorative ceramic beads are made in house; you can spot them on the Balance Jacket, Reveille Jackets, Bamboo Vests and our fabulous summer scarves.

Yarn:
SKAL certified organic cotton yarn is imported from Turkey, Pakistan, and India to Canada (SKAL certification, which included Fair Trade).

Fabric:
In Canada our fabric supplier knits the yarn into fabric. We only use the highest quality ring-spun combed cotton to create the following fabrics:

  • 100% organic cotton
  • 64% viscose from bamboo, 24% organic cotton and 8% Lycra
  • 90% viscose from bamboo and 10% Lycra
  • 70% viscose from bamboo and 30% organic cotton

Dying:
Fabric is dyed in Ontario using Azo-free dyes. This is a class of dyes that are more efficiently absorbed into natural (cellulosic) fibres resulting in less polluting run-off. Azo-free dyes are an improvement over the conventional dyes and allow a good consistency in a myriad of colours, important for high-quality dyeing, and have been tested to be free of toxic inputs.
