Local and Eco-friendly Partners.
After years of experimentations, Andréanne has discovered the beauty and flexibility that cotton and bamboo offer fashion. . With her two favorite fiber in hand, she set-out to form partnerships with eco-friendly fiber suppliers. Her Canadian supplier of Cotton fabric is Fine Cotton Factory in Scarborough, Ontario, a small family owned mill, recommended to Andréanne by Craig Kilburger founder of Free the Children Foundation. Her Bamboo/ Organic Cotton/ fabric is sourced from SYKA Textiles Trading Corp in Mission BC. Owners, Susan & Yves Gagnon offer certification such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 from their mills. They are contributors to the Future Fashion White Papers published by Earth Pledge as part of the Earth Pledge Series on Sustainable Development. Once the fabrics are unrolled and cut to specifications, all of her clothes are manufactured in her own city, Winnipeg, at Pace Setters Sportwear.
Why Bamboo
"Bamboo fiber has many of the physical properties that you see in cotton and some additional ones. For instance, it is antibacterial and has low absorbency; it is hypoallergenic and offers UV protection; it is incredibly soft and it sheds dirt well. Bamboo does not need chemical pesticides and fertilizers to grow. Bamboo thrives in impoverished soil. Bamboo roots hold soil tight, retaining water in the watershed; furthermore, they mitigate water pollution due to high nitrogen consumption." Rich Delano, from the article, The Lowdown on Bamboo in Future Fashion White Papers, Earth Pledge, New York
